The Circle of Courage Institute is a movement of professionals, citizens, parents, and policy leaders concerned with children and youth in homes, schools, and communities.
The Circle of Courage has piloted an innovative curriculum which offers "basic training" for all who deal with challenging children and youth. Response Ability Pathways®, or simply RAP, provides essential strength-based strategies for all who deal with young persons in family, school, or community.
This collection of stories and reflections links the theory of youth development to "what actually happens." Lloyd and Anthea are teachers and youth workers in their multicultural community of Porirua in New Zealand. For thirty years they have welcomed young people into their home, provided alternative education, and taken them on adventures in the outdoors. This is their story about how to engage with our most vulnerable young people and keep everyone sane in the process.
"An essential road map for navigating the world of youth, provinding hands-on strategies for success."
Certification of trainers in Response Ability Pathways [RAP] is offered at sites in North America and abroad. This three-day course explores practice-based evidence on the Circle of Courage resilience model including recent brain research. Candidates also develop skills in an experiential training lab. Upon completion, new RAP Trainers initially co-train with a more experienced colleague. Those with a basic knowledge of neuroscience can also be endorsed to offer one-day Deep Brain Learning courses.
